While my children were growing up file sharing on the internet was at its peak. I spent many nights downloading music, movies and other media for my kids. The indie/alternative rock scene was the best it’s ever been, and my kids and I fell in love with several different bands that we try to still go see today; Blue October, Young the Giant, Death Cab for Cutie, The Killers and others. My daughter and I have been trying to get tickets to see Death Cab for some time. The band came out with a new album, Asphalt Meadows and were touring. We intended to see them prior to COVID in New York but timing and other factors prevented that from happening. Back in July my daughter called me and told me they were coming to Maryland where she is and I told her right away, get them! My wife wanting to see her daughter (not a Death Cab fan) said she’d endure the show to see her and declared she was going too. Then my sons heard the news and decided to tag along as well. The whole family together. We were all excited.
The tickets were for Sep 27th which I would later find out would be the week prior to my surgery. When I was consulting surgeons, I had 3 possible surgeons, 2 recommended by my Urologist, the third was recommended by a family friend. They say timing is not too important, meaning scheduling the surgery a month out vs 2 months out doesn’t make too big a difference; that the likelihood of anything progressing over that short period of time is unlikely. I wanted some piece of mind. I needed it out. When we laid out all the factors; the proximity and reputation of the facility, the date when it would be performed, and the experience of the surgeon, we felt we had the right decision. I’m 11 days post-op and so far, things are going exceedingly well. I feel a bit blessed right now.
I was a bit apprehensive about going to Maryland at first, due to the surgery being a week away. My wife was committed to going and ensured we wear our masks wherever we went as to avoid COVID or getting sick. We left on a Friday to spend the weekend to the following Wednesday. Of course, at times during my visit my mind wondered to my future fate but overall, the trip was a great reprieve. One night we made this awesome, awesome, awesome “Tofu Katsu Curry.” I highly recommend. We ventured into the city a couple of times to visit Abraham Lincoln’s Summer Home and Hirshhorn Museum. We also played a few rounds of disc golf and hit our favorite crab joint. Here are some pictures of our trip.
The Death Cab Concert was on the Tuesday night before we left. I blew up my phone with the number of videos I took of the band. Here is one of their most popular songs “Follow You into the Dark.”
