Holiday Break – 30th Anniversary

Thirty years ago, my wife and I stood in front of an altar and said our vows. But our relationship started way before then. Over ten years prior, my wife and I were paired in a Home Economics class in our middle school baking bad cookies and sewing something… You can see how much I paid attention. Needless to say, we would meet up again and date through-out high school. We would share Senior Home Coming court and be announced Home Coming King and Queen of our class. There is no one in this world I love more than my wife. How could I? She loves me and that in itself is a miracle.

I found out I had Cancer in August. I had my operation in October. My 30-year anniversary was in December. We went through a lot in a few short months. I wanted to honor my wife, our relationship. I wanted her to know how much I love her and how much she’s meant to me. Especially for the past few months but mostly for most of and the rest of my life. She is my morning noon and night.

Our anniversary fell on a Monday, so I decided to schedule a weekend out. An elaborate plan to get her away and enjoy each other on the west coast of Florida. To cap the weekend, I worked with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law to plan a surprise renewal of vows and party. For once I think she was surprised. I’m not too good at keeping secrets.

Here are pictures of our weekend and ceremony with family. As I drove to the church where we were married thirty years ago, my body trembled, and tears welled up in my eyes. How I want to spend another thirty years with this woman. If God willing.
