Last – From Morning Run to Making Pasta in Rome – Day 3
Good Bye Rome
Today we are Traveling from Rome to Palermo. Our flight was around around 1 pm. Airport Fiumicino is about 35 minutes away from Rome. We weren’t able to arrange a car with our host. We decided to take a taxi to the airport at around 9 am. Assuming getting there earlier would be better than getting there late, we went to Rome.info and looked up the best way to get transportation in Rome. The site mentioned 2 apps to use Freenow and Wetaxi. Freenow only allowed us to request a taxi right away but Wetaxi let us schedule it for the following day. We setup an appointment for 9 am. When we were about 15 minutes out from that time, the app scheduled the taxi. We were picked up promptly. Getting there wasn’t so bad though it was bittersweet saying goodbye to Rome. It was so much fun.
After getting to the airport, there were 4 different lounges we could choose from. Once we settled on one, we got a quick breakfast. We tracked my in-laws’ flight from Miami and found they would be in prior to our flight out. We met them at our gate. Unfortunately, we had different flights that were an hour apart. We met up again at Palermo airport and waited for our driver and host.
Hello Palermo
Our host’s name is Calagero. Him and his wife are the owner of the Airbnb we’re staying at. It’s a 2-2 apartment right outside Palermo’s old city. He was glib and generous with his information and time. His English was quite broken. However, he was patient while discussing different areas for us to go and eat. He was also energetic. He told us to text him any time with questions. We could contact him despite only staying for 3 days. It was still a little early. Chris and Carol picked up some quick food. It would hold us over until dinner. We picked a local restaurant aptly named Locale. It was close by. We drank a bottle of wine and talked of our experiences getting here.
Dinner was not good. The staff was accommodating. They had several waiters and staff waiting on us supporting us as needed. More water, missing forks, ice for our drinks, etc. We ordered food. Some pizzas, pasta and a fried seafood platter. The pizzas were doughy almost soggy, my pasta was like Ravioli Os and the fried seafood was salty. The wine was good. We headed back to the apartment. Chris and I ran to the local gelato place… There seem to be several options to choose from. We grabbed some small cups of gelato. We then headed back to the apartment and zonked out for the night.
